The Uganda Aviation Academy Limited (UAA) has unveiled an ambitious expansion plan aimed at positioning itself as a premier aviation training destination in East and Central Africa. The initiative will see the academy add two training centres, eight aircraft and two flight simulators to its growing portfolio.

A Strategic Footprint in Entebbe and Jinja

Central to the plan is the establishment of two new training centres, one in Entebbe and another in Jinja. Each facility will serve a distinct purpose, allowing the academy to broaden its reach and specialise its offerings across different locations.

The Entebbe centre is expected to leverage its proximity to the country's main international airport, while the Jinja facility will open new opportunities for students in the eastern region. Together, the two sites are designed to accommodate growing demand for aviation professionals across the region.

Broadening the Curriculum

UAA already runs a diverse range of programmes covering airline operations, cabin crew training, aviation safety, airport operations, and travel and tourism. The expansion is expected to deepen these offerings and introduce new pathways for students seeking careers in the skies and on the ground.

The addition of eight aircraft and two flight simulators will significantly enhance practical training, giving learners more hands-on experience with modern equipment. Industry observers say access to simulators is particularly valuable, as it allows trainees to build confidence and competence before taking to the air.

Positioning Uganda as a Regional Player

The move reflects a broader push to make Uganda a hub for aviation education, drawing students from neighbouring countries and beyond. As demand for skilled aviation personnel rises across Africa, the academy's expansion could help bridge the gap between training capacity and industry needs.

By investing in infrastructure and equipment, UAA is signalling its intent to compete with established training institutions in the region. The plan also promises to create jobs and stimulate local economies in both Entebbe and Jinja.

What It Means for Aspiring Aviators

For young people dreaming of careers in aviation, the expansion offers more options and better facilities closer to home. Students will be able to train on modern aircraft and simulators, gaining skills that are directly relevant to employers in the sector.

The academy's growth also aligns with wider efforts to develop Uganda's aviation industry, which is seen as a key driver of trade, tourism and connectivity. As the sector evolves, institutions like UAA will play a central role in shaping the workforce of tomorrow.

With the expansion underway, all eyes will be on how the academy translates its plans into reality and whether it can indeed become the region's go-to training hub.
