Elvis Mungudit, a 16-year-old golfer from Namulonge Golf Club, has set his sights on a new challenge after clinching the boys' 15-18 category title in the fourth season of the NCBA-sponsored US Kids Golf Series. The junior golfer, now in his second year of competitive play, wants to break par consistently in the upcoming fifth season, which tees off on November 25.
A Season to Remember
Mungudit sealed his victory with a level-par round of 72 over 18 holes on Sunday, accumulating 153.5 points across six outings to top his age group. The S2 student at Lutembe Boarding School finished second last year, and his steady improvement has now earned him the top spot.
Reflecting on his progress, Mungudit said he has spent time mastering the rules and tactics of the game and is now eager to push his performance further. He noted that he has often won by at least 10 points over par on many courses, and he now wants to play under par.
Gratitude and Ambition
The young golfer thanked NCBA Bank, his coaches, US Kids Golf management, and Namulonge Golf Club for their support. He particularly acknowledged the club's role in training and sponsoring seven junior golfers to compete at a high level this season. Looking ahead, Mungudit expressed his desire to compete in international events and make his mark.
Other Winners and Broader Impact
Harsshitha Loganathan claimed the girls' 15-18 category with 90 points overall. She is currently in Nigeria representing Uganda at a continental junior golf competition. The season finale also saw several other players crowned and awarded medals and trophies.
Mark Muyobo, Chief Executive Officer of NCBA Bank Uganda, reaffirmed the bank's commitment to nurturing young talent. He said the ambition was to establish a structured and sustainable pathway for young golfers in Uganda to develop their talent, compete meaningfully, and build character through sport. He expressed pride in the program's growth and the increasing number of young people it inspires.
US Kids Golf official Les Brown noted that over 80 juniors aged between six and 18 participated in the six events of the fourth season. He highlighted that the tournament has produced many of the country's national junior golfers over the four years it has been running, including the girls currently representing Uganda in Nigeria. Brown also commended parents for their continued support of the young golfers.
The overall winners in the respective age categories were crowned and awarded trophies and medals.
