The faithful of Our Lady of Africa Church Mbuya are invited to join the parish's online congregation for the celebration of Holy Mass on Sunday, November 8, 2026. For those unable to attend in person, the livestream offers a chance to remain connected to the community and to the word of God from wherever they may be.
A Call to Wisdom
The liturgy opens with a reading from the Book of Wisdom, which paints a portrait of wisdom as radiant and unfading. The passage reminds believers that wisdom is readily perceived by those who love her and that she makes herself known to anyone who seeks her with sincerity. Those who rise early to look for her will not be left empty-handed.
The responsorial psalm echoes this deep longing. Drawn from Psalm 63, the refrain declares, "My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God." The verses speak of a soul yearning for God in a dry and weary land, finding comfort in the sanctuary and rejoicing in the shelter of divine wings.
Hope in the Face of Loss
In the second reading, taken from the First Letter to the Thessalonians, St. Paul offers words of consolation to a community grieving the loss of its members. He urges them not to mourn without hope, reminding them that if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, then God will likewise bring forth those who have fallen asleep in Christ. The passage closes with the assurance that the faithful shall always be with the Lord.
Stay Awake and Be Ready
The Gospel acclamation from Matthew calls the congregation to vigilance: "Stay awake and be ready! For you do not know on what day your Lord will come."
This theme carries into the Gospel reading, also from Matthew, in which Jesus tells the parable of the ten virgins. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. When the bridegroom was delayed, all grew drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight, a cry rang out announcing his arrival. The wise virgins, who had brought enough oil for their lamps, went in with him to the wedding feast, and the door was shut. The foolish ones, who had run out of oil, were left outside.
The parable ends with a sobering instruction: stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.
Joining the Celebration
Parishioners and visitors alike are encouraged to follow the Mass through the online broadcast and to share the link with family and friends who may be far from home. The readings for this Sunday weave together themes of seeking wisdom, holding fast to hope, and living in constant readiness for the Lord's coming.
As the community gathers in spirit, the message of the liturgy invites each person to keep the lamp of faith burning brightly, prepared at all times for the call that comes when least expected.
