Newcastle United defender Amar Dedic was stopped by police after being seen carrying a bow and arrows at a beauty spot in Northumberland. The 24-year-old Bosnia-Herzegovina international was with a friend when police intercepted their car following a call from a concerned member of the public.

Armed Police Respond to Report

According to reports, six police vehicles, including armed officers, were dispatched to the scene. Dedic and his companion were stopped approximately seven miles from where they were initially spotted. Police conducted a search of the vehicle and confiscated the bow and arrows, but determined that the two men posed no threat to the public.

BBC Sport understands that Dedic had no malicious intent and fully cooperated with the authorities. The incident occurred on Wednesday, two days after Dedic played in Newcastle's 1-0 home defeat to Everton.

Teammates Offer Assistance

It is reported that Newcastle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie, 34, and former defender Paul Dummett, 35, happened to be in the area and stopped to offer assistance while police were speaking with Dedic. The pair were reportedly there by chance.

Dedic joined Newcastle from Benfica in August for a fee in the region of £30m. He has since made 10 appearances in league and cup competitions. Newcastle, currently 13th in the Premier League with 11 points from nine games, have not commented on the incident.

Police Statement

Northumbria Police released a statement saying they received reports of two men carrying a bow and arrows while walking along a track by the reservoir on Military Road in the Harlow Hill area. "Officers attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized a bow and arrows," the statement read. "At this stage, it is understood they were for recreational use and there was no threat to the public." The force has not named Dedic, and enquiries are ongoing.

Newcastle are set to face Fulham on Saturday before the November international break. Dedic has been named in the Bosnia-Herzegovina squad for their Nations League matches against Sweden on 14 November and Romania on 17 November.
