Kyankwanzi District has announced a proposed budget of Sh43.6 billion for the 2027/2028 financial year, with the education sector set to receive the largest allocation. The budget was presented by District Chief Finance Officer George Kamba during a conference at the district headquarters.

Education Takes the Lead

According to Kamba, education has been allocated Sh20.05 billion, accounting for 46 percent of the total budget. This significant investment underscores the district's commitment to improving access to quality education and enhancing learning outcomes for its residents.

Health and Administration Follow

The health sector will receive Sh7.36 billion, representing 16.9 percent of the budget, while administration has been allocated Sh6.94 billion (15.9 percent). Other key allocations include Sh2.87 billion for production and marketing (6.6 percent), Sh2.39 billion for roads and technical services, Sh1.05 billion for natural resources, Sh955.9 million for statutory bodies, and Sh601.1 million for water services.

Revenue Mobilisation Efforts

Kamba highlighted the district's target to collect Sh1.3 billion in local revenue for the upcoming financial year, which is approximately three percent of the projected budget. He noted that before the introduction of the electronic revenue collection system, the district collected between Sh400 million and Sh500 million annually.

"With the introduction of the electronic revenue collection system, our revenue performance has improved, and we are now collecting approximately UGX 1 billion," Kamba said. He revealed that the district collected Sh900 million in the previous financial year, adding that collections could have been higher had the district not been affected by the political season.

Kamba called for joint efforts among local leaders and stakeholders to strengthen revenue mobilisation, emphasising that the money collected should be properly utilised to finance development projects and improve service delivery.

The proposed budget reflects Kyankwanzi District's focus on key sectors such as education and health, while also addressing infrastructure and service delivery. As the district prepares for the new financial year, the emphasis on revenue collection and proper utilisation of funds will be crucial in achieving its development goals.
