Entebbe UPPC FC staged a determined second-half revival to overturn a first-half deficit and claim a 3-1 victory against league newcomers Ntugasaze FC in Thursday's Uganda Premier League fixture at the Kira Road Police Arena in Kamwokya.
Ambrose Kigozi emerged as the standout performer, netting twice to swing the contest in his side's favour and contributing significantly to a bizarre second goal that left the hosts reeling. The result marks UPPC's fifth triumph of the 2026/27 campaign.
Hosts Take Unexpected Lead
Ntugasaze, still finding their feet in the top flight, stunned their more established opponents by taking the lead in the 26th minute. Kennedy Muserero latched onto Jerome Otim's inviting cross, which slipped past the UPPC backline, and made no mistake in giving the home side a 1-0 advantage going into the interval.
It was Muserero's second goal in as many league outings, following his strike in Ntugasaze's 1-1 stalemate with Express FC in their previous match at the same venue.
Mubiru's Men Respond After the Break
Whatever Abdallah Mubiru said to his players during the halftime team talk clearly had the desired effect. The experienced coach watched his charges emerge with far greater urgency and intent, and they drew level in the 55th minute.
Kigozi then became the architect of UPPC's second goal in the 75th minute, capitalising on a costly misunderstanding between Ntugasaze defender Shafick Matovu and goalkeeper Richard Afoyo. A long kick from the UPPC goalkeeper was allowed to bounce through, and Kigozi's pressure forced the ball into the net, handing his side the lead.
Late Error Seals the Points
The visitors put the result beyond doubt with a third goal that stemmed from another defensive lapse. Afoyo could only parry Gift Odongo's goal-bound effort into the path of Kigozi, who reacted quickest to slot home the rebound and complete his brace, securing all three points for the Entebbe-based outfit.
For Ntugasaze, the loss represents their seventh defeat in nine league matches, with just one win and one draw to their name. The league debutants remain 16th in the 18-team standings, having collected a mere four points from their opening nine fixtures.
UPPC, meanwhile, will take confidence from a resilient display that showcased their ability to respond under pressure, with Kigozi's clinical finishing proving the difference on the day.
