Zombo District is set to host its inaugural Agricultural Trade Show and Coffee Conference, a three-day event scheduled for November 11-13, 2026, at the Kyambogo University Paidha Campus playground. The event, under the theme "Building Climate Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Agro-Industrialisation and Market Linkages for Wealth Creation," aims to showcase the district's agricultural potential and boost coffee production and exports to approximately 61 metric tonnes per annum within the next five years.

Showcasing Zombo's Agricultural Potential

The District Production Officer, Dr Walter Kumakech, emphasized the strategic importance of the show in highlighting Zombo's untapped potential along key priority commodity value chains, including coffee, banana, Irish potatoes, tea, cassava, honey, horticulture, aquaculture, dairy, and small ruminants. The announcement was made during a press conference held in the district boardroom at the district headquarters last week.

The event will also promote the unique tourism attractions and cultural diversity of the Alur, Kebu, Lendu, and Lugbara communities. "The event will create direct linkages between farmers, research institutions, academia, agro-input dealers, processors, manufacturers, traders, buyers, and investors from across West Nile, Northern Uganda, and beyond," Kumakech said.

Plans to Boost Coffee Output

Kumakech outlined plans to boost coffee output through targeted government interventions, including the supply of seedlings, fertilizers, and associated agro-inputs, alongside continuous quality extension and advisory services to raise farm productivity, improve quality, and minimize post-harvest losses. These efforts are expected to significantly increase coffee production and exports, contributing to wealth creation in the region.

The trade show is anticipated to attract a wide range of participants, including local farmers, agricultural experts, investors, and policymakers, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and business opportunities. It also aims to position Zombo as a key player in the agricultural sector, leveraging its diverse commodity value chains to drive sustainable development.

As the district prepares for this landmark event, stakeholders are optimistic that the trade show will catalyze agricultural transformation and enhance market linkages, ultimately improving livelihoods and fostering economic growth in Zombo and beyond.
