Uganda's women's golf team opened their campaign at the All-Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) with a commendable performance on Wednesday, finishing the first round in fourth place at the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja, Nigeria.

Solid Opening Round

The Ugandan trio combined for a total of 163 strokes, positioning themselves behind South Africa (154), Kenya (158), and Tanzania (160). The team is aiming for a top-three finish in the prestigious continental event, which features golfers from 19 nations.

Keisha Kagoro led the Ugandan charge with a 5-over-par 78, placing her third individually. She trails South Africa's Isabella Ferreira, who carded a 76, and Kenya's Kanana Muthoni, who posted a 77.

"It is encouraging to begin the championship this way," Kagoro said. "I know the competition is strong, but I will stay focused, trust my game, and work towards an even better performance."

Team Contributions

Team captain Judith Komugisha contributed an 85, while Harsshitha Loganathan added a 95. Their scores, combined with Kagoro's solid start, kept Uganda in contention.

South Africa, the early leaders, also saw strong performances from Lourenda Steyn (78) and Charlotte Millard (85). Botswana's Loapi Chokwe sits fifth at seven over par, while Tanzania's Neema Olomi and Madina Iddy are tied at eight over par.

Kenya's Bianca Ngecu and Kellie Gachaga each shot nine over par, and Nigeria's Juliana Ehinomhen is tied for tenth at 10 over par.

Format and Outlook

The championship is decided over 54 holes, with each golfer playing 18 holes in each of the three rounds. With two rounds remaining, Uganda will look to build on their opening performance and challenge the leaders.

Kagoro's focus and determination will be key as the team seeks to climb the leaderboard and achieve their goal of a top-three finish.
