Sport-S head coach Malic Damulira has called on his players to sharpen their performance and cut down on costly mistakes as the club's men's and women's teams prepare for a demanding double-header in the 2026/27 National Volleyball League at MTN Arena on Friday.

The men's side takes on Uganda Christian University (UCU), while the women face a confident KCCA outfit. Both matches arrive as Sport-S look to carry momentum from the 2026 National Volleyball Club Championship, where the club celebrated a rare double by winning both the men's and women's titles.

Morale High but Focus Essential

Damulira says the mood within the camp is positive, though he insists that good spirits alone will not be enough against quality opposition.

"We are prepared and the morale is quite good. We are trying to maintain that," he said. "However, we know KCCA is a team we need to be conscious of. We need to be good both offensively and defensively, and minimise all errors."

The women's encounter promises to be a stern examination of Sport-S's credentials. KCCA have been in ruthless form, winning their opening two fixtures without conceding a single set. The Lugogo side dispatched Vision Volleyball Club 3-0 before repeating the feat against UCU, collecting six points to sit level with Seroma at the summit of the standings. Sport-S, by contrast, have three points from a single outing.

Ending KCCA's flawless run would bring Sport-S closer to the leading pack, but it will require a disciplined display against a team that has looked organised and consistent from the first whistle.

Men Face Familiar Foe

The men's fixture carries its own intrigue. Sport-S began their campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Elyon, while UCU slipped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Bukedea. The two sides last met in the men's final of the National Volleyball Club Championship, where Sport-S triumphed in straight sets to lift the trophy.

Despite that recent success, Damulira is expecting a fierce response from UCU.

"I expect UCU to give us a challenge. They are one of the teams that always come in strong, and that makes us stronger. We do not need to make mistakes," he noted.

The coach also singled out serving as a weakness that must be addressed, conceding that his side struggled in that department during their opener.

"We struggled with our serving during our first game. We are working on that problem. For the men, we need to be stronger," he added.

Busy Weekend Across the League

KCCA face a congested schedule after the Sport-S clash, with further women's fixtures against Nemostars and Nkumba. Nemostars will be eager to bounce back after falling to Seroma in their opening match, while Nkumba seek a response following their defeat to UPDF.

In the men's division, Saturday's programme pits Bukedea against Elyon, KCCA against Police and Nemostars against KAVC. Sunday's action sees Tigers face Police, Prisons take on Bukedea, Police meet KAVC and UCU play Tigers.

The women's schedule on Saturday features VVC against Nkumba, Sport-S B versus UPDF, Nemostars against KCCA and KCB-Nkumba against UCU. On Sunday, UCU face UPDF, Nemostars meet Sport-S B, while KCB-Nkumba take on VVC.

Prisons currently lead the men's standings with seven points from three matches. In the women's table, KCCA and Seroma share top spot on six points apiece, with Sport-S on three points from one game.
