Roke Telkom, a Ugandan-owned telecommunications firm, has announced a strategic shift from being primarily an internet connectivity provider to a full-fledged Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions company. The announcement coincided with the company's 20th anniversary celebrations, held at Roke House in Bugolobi, Kampala, on Wednesday.

A Milestone Celebration

The event, dubbed Roke@20, brought together industry stakeholders, partners, and customers. The guest of honour was Hon. Nyombi Thembo, Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), who commended Roke Telkom for its contribution to Uganda's telecommunications sector over the past two decades.

In his remarks, Thembo highlighted the importance of local innovation in driving the country's digital transformation agenda. He noted that Roke Telkom's evolution reflects the growing maturity of Uganda's ICT industry and its potential to compete on a regional scale.

From Connectivity to Comprehensive Solutions

Roke Telkom's new direction will see the company expand its offerings beyond internet services to include cloud computing, cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IoT), and managed IT services. This move is aimed at meeting the evolving needs of businesses and institutions in Uganda and beyond.

According to company officials, the transition is a natural progression after 20 years of building a robust network infrastructure and understanding customer needs. The firm plans to leverage its existing infrastructure and expertise to deliver integrated ICT solutions that drive efficiency and growth for its clients.

Commitment to Uganda's Digital Future

As part of its anniversary celebrations, Roke Telkom reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Uganda's digital economy through innovation and partnerships. The company also announced plans to invest in talent development and digital skills training, ensuring that Ugandans are equipped to thrive in the digital age.

The event concluded with a call for continued collaboration between the private sector, government, and other stakeholders to accelerate Uganda's ICT development and bridge the digital divide.

Roke Telkom's journey from a local internet service provider to a comprehensive ICT solutions company is a testament to the resilience and potential of Ugandan enterprises in the technology sector.
