Proceedings in a civil suit challenging the administration of two family estates linked to Mpigi High Court Judge Deepa Verma were put on hold on Wednesday after the case file was reportedly summoned by the Principal Judge, Jane Frances Abodo, for further directions.

The parties had gathered before the High Court Family Division Deputy Registrar, Samuel Olumo, for a scheduled summons for directions. However, the session did not proceed after those present were told that the file had been called by the Principal Judge's office.

Applicants Left Waiting

One of the applicants, Bunny Wallia, explained that they only discovered the file was unavailable after arriving at court for the planned hearing.

"We were supposed to appear before the Deputy Registrar at 3:00pm for summons for directions, but unfortunately the file had been called by the Principal Judge," Wallia said.

He noted that the parties were informed nothing could proceed without the file in place, and that they now await word from the Principal Judge's chambers on the way forward.

Background to the Dispute

The suit was lodged by Bunny Wallia and Jaspal Ahluwalia against Verma, the Administrator General and another family member, centering on the management of the estates of the late Zura Mama Kasuku and Ahluwalia Gudo. Verma is named as the second respondent.

The applicants are contesting the circumstances under which the Administrator General issued Certificates of No Objection in favour of Verma and Jassa Wallia, which cleared the way for them to begin proceedings to administer the two estates.

According to court documents, the disagreement stems from the handling of files relating to the estates at the Office of the Administrator General on June 12, 2026.

The development leaves the matter in limbo until the Principal Judge issues directions, with the parties now watching closely for any communication from the judiciary's top administrative office.
