Kampala's Gospel Elite Crescendo Choir International is marking two decades of music and ministry with a special anniversary concert at Namirembe Cathedral Gardens. The celebration, set for Boxing Day, promises a fresh experience for fans who have followed the group over the years.

A New Home for a Beloved Tradition

For the past 19 years, the choir's annual December 26 concert, known as Ekibbiitu ky'omwaka, has been held at the Mengo Senior School playground. This year, organizers have shifted the event to Namirembe Cathedral Gardens, a change they say reflects the significance of the milestone.

George William Senabulya, one of the choir's lead singers, explained that the 20th anniversary edition, themed Ekibbiitu ky'omwaka: Crescendos at 20, will feature upgraded stage design, improved venue decoration, refined session arrangements and enhanced on-stage performances.

Two Decades of Spreading the Gospel

The choir was founded in 2006 by Ronald Keeya Senabulya, with its roots at St. Thomas Kiwuunya Church of Uganda in Kiwuunya Parish, Kazo Archdeaconry, under Namirembe Diocese. Its mission has remained constant: spreading the gospel of Christ through music, preaching and the promotion of Christian values.

Over the years, the group has performed beyond Uganda's borders, ministering in Dubai, Kenya and Rwanda. At home, the choir has graced state functions, parties and concerts, earning a reputation for faith-filled performances that draw audiences into worship.

"We aim to foster assembly participation through faith-filled singing that is familiar, enthusiastic and inspirational," Senabulya said.

A Diverse Fellowship of Professionals

Gospel Elite Crescendo brings together 36 members from a wide range of professions, including doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers, businesspeople, students and managers. Despite their varied careers, they share a common commitment to serving God through singing, dancing and praise.

Senabulya noted that the choir's performances have inspired communities and encouraged many to embrace their faith and use their talents in service to God.

Notable Achievements

The choir's list of accomplishments includes winning the Uganda Golden Jubilee Network competition during the country's 50th independence anniversary celebrations in 2012. It has also taken top honors in the choir category at the Victoria Gospel Music Awards (VIGA) three times.

New Music and High Expectations

The anniversary announcement comes shortly after the release of the choir's latest gospel reggae track, Olwaleero Mbaga, which has been gaining traction among believers and receiving airplay on both Christian and mainstream radio stations.

"We organise a massive Christmas family concert, code-named Ekibbiitu ky'omwaka, every December 26. Preparations are now in high gear for this year's edition as we celebrate 20 years of vibrant existence in the gospel music industry and our service to God through music," Senabulya added.

With a new venue, fresh music and two decades of ministry behind them, the choir is set to deliver a Boxing Day celebration that will resonate with fans old and new.
